TG Swim Meet

Workouts  The coaching staff structures practices to accommodate swimmers of all ability, endurance, and skill levels.  Multiple levels of training are offered to allow each individual to maximize their time in the water.  Masters training group practices are scheduled for one and one-half hours, check the most recent team brochure and newsletter for specific days and times for practice.

Open Water

Seasons  For training purposes, the short course (25 yard or meter pool) season runs from September through early April.  Long course (50 meter pool) season runs from mid-April through August.  For competition purposes, short course meters season runs from September through December, short course yards season runs from January through early May, and long course season runs from May through August.

Competition  Participation in meets is encouraged, but not required.  Typically meets are run with age groups combined for competition, but separated for awards.  Sometimes women and men swim together in the same heat.  Masters age groups run in five year segments (ie. 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, etc.) for individual events.  Relays are classified by the youngest team member in yards meets (ie. 19+, 25+, 35+), and cumulative age for short course and long course meters meets (ie. 100-119, 120-159, 160-199).  Relays are swum both as single sex and also mixed (two women, two men).

Local Meet Schedule  A good selection of meets is available within driving distance of Greenville.  The typical schedule is: October/November in Columbia, SC (short course meters), December in Marietta, GA (short course meters), January in Charlotte, NC (yards), February in Auburn, AL or Charleston (yards), March in Atlanta, GA (yards), mid-June in Clemson (open water), and late-June/early-July in Greenville (long course).

Other Competitions  National championships for yards are held in May and for long course in August.  Besides actual on-site meets, Postal Competitions are offered during the year where you mail in your time for comparison with others nationally and internationally.  Postal meets TGM swimmers have participated in include the Postal Pentathlon, Check-Off Challenge, One Hour Swim, 5K, and 10K.
